Gas,

Which moves like a vapour,

Brings to mind ghosts, phantoms,

And other things associated with death.

— Lan Kikuchi

These ink drawing portraits were based on photographs from multiple countires during the World War 1. Poison gas has been regarded as the most feared of all weapons at the time. Around 1,250,000 human beings suffered from poison gas, which included 91,000 fatalities. The biochemical weapon, specifically mustard gas, can cause both external and internal blisters by just exposure within several hours. Poison gas masks were used to protect people from the gas. However, the gas masks did not protect them from the terror and fear experienced on the battle field.
